Finding Your Formula

Volume 13: Telling it Like it Is - Finding Your Formula

This is Emotional Adventures in the Office, where we are committed to addressing real struggles that people face at work. Our approach will vary. Sometimes we will ask questions, other times we will make bold statements.
We're always looking for new topics to delve into, so if you have any suggestions, please let us know.

There is no standard playbook for effective leadership.

YOU have to craft your own formula, often through trial and error, that resonates with your team AND aligns with your goals. It helps if you have your own personal guiding principles. It matters if you recognize you are working to create a space where your actions help create a community of people on the same path, who care about work AND each other. It matters because:

Every team is unique, with its own culture, challenges, and dynamics.

The ability to adapt your leadership style to the situation and the needs of your team is crucial. Being stuck in a rigid leadership approach leads to challenges in culture and engagement.

People can sense when you're not being true to yourself. Operating with principles that truly reflect your personal values and strengths builds trust and respect. Authentic leadership inspires loyalty and enthusiasm, both keys to sustaining performance.

Tailoring your approach helps you get comfortable with other people's ideas, encouraging innovation, and creativity. It allows people space to experiment and reduces fear of failure. It helps teams develop a sense of ownership and responsibility.

The best formula is one you develop through your own trial and error. Create it, refine it and own it. Then use it to create success for yourself and your team.

What's your Leadership Formula?

I'll leave mine right here:

Purpose: Igniting, Inspiring and moving people toward a shared vision

Clarity: Foresight and decision making that paves the roadmap to future state, expressed in terms people understand. If someone does not understand, it is my responsibility to clarify not condemn.

Resilience: The strength, the Grit, the stomach to face challenges head on, not fearing mistakes and as Chumbawamba says: "I get knocked down, but I get up again.

Empathy: Connecting at a deeper level, truly understanding and valuing the experiences of those in my care.

Adaptability: The flexibility and the ability to EVOLVE with changes, looking at what is uncertain and saying how can I make this change work best.

Prayer: This is often the hidden secret nobody talks about, but for me it is a foundation of faith and reflection offering deeper connection to values and mission and is something to explore, if it is your thing.

Let's create spaces that drive success through authenticity, empathy, and resilience. Who is with me?
